In this picture we have what the Israelites crossed over on. This land reef or land bridge, has regular sand on it. Not like the silt you find on the ocean floor. This makes it possible for the Israelites to cross with their belongings. Because this was sand, and not silt, also made it possible for their wagons to cross without getting stuck.
